In this course, students will learn about climate adaptation by phasing out fossil fuels in favor of renewable energy sources.
Samsø has over a number of years worked to make the island climate-friendly, and is now known as “Denmark’s renewable energy island”. Let’s imagine that Thurø wants to go the same way.

In this educational scenario, the class works to build a better world, based on a deeper understanding of the ways in which forests and trees can make our cities greener, healthier and better places to live.
Students are challenged to work in teams to solve problems together, think critically, gather knowledge, apply their imagination and experiment. Students learn about the many benefits of trees and forests, especially in cities, and will raise awareness among today’s children about sustainable use and conservation of forests.
The educational scenario was developed in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Amagerværket BIO4







In this course, students will learn about BIO4’s central importance for Copenhagen to become CO2 neutral in 2025. Students will also learn to understand why burning of biomass can be sustainable if new trees are planted to replace the burnt biomass. The students get to understand the functions of a power plant at a simple level and they are given the opportunity to control the power plant themselves.

In the course students must work with mathematical skills, geometry and measurement on each their ground. By building a house and building a garden, they learn through concrete experiences about i.a. perimeter, area and mirrors. In addition, they learn to build spatial figures.
