‘Vesterbro New School’ worked for 5 days with an educational Scenario with lessons using Build A World EDU. The students were set in an environment of a large city, and had to work together in their teams to solve the tasks. The assignment topics ranged from power production using sustainable energy and conventional energy, to infrastructure of a large city and architectural design and construction.
Everyday started with the teacher giving an introduction to the assignment and teaching about the subject. Each day finished with a ‘show and tell’ meeting where the students shared their findings, learnings and achievements.
The students worked with deep concentration for many hours, they were very positive about the new way of learning and even forgot to take breaks.
(The course was facilitated by UCC at the 21st Century Learning Skills Lab)
We have observed that the students have strengthened their ability to work together. The teams of students have worked together building houses and constructions, and to make it happen they have been forced to develop a common understanding as well as a shared technical terminology. In the evaluations, several of the students described that they have learned to worked together with new people, and that they have gotten wiser about how the real world works.”
